Reliance Group Chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced that Jio, the digital arm of the group, is developing a fully integrated 5G telecom technology in the country. At the annual general meeting of Reliance Industries on Wednesday, Ambani said, “Jio has designed and developed the 5G technology.
This 5G spectrum will be ready for trial as soon as it becomes available and may be ready for field development next year.” Significantly, Jio’s global 4G and fiber network is powered by several core software technologies and components. Jio Platforms built world-class capabilities in technologies such as 4G, 5G, cloud computing, devices and OS, Big Data, AI, AR / VR, blockchain, natural language understanding and computer vision with over 20 startup partners.
Ambani said, in the next three years, Jio will connect half a billion (50 crore) mobile customers, one billion smart sensors and five crore domestic and commercial installations.
Ambani said during the AGM that ‘we welcome Google as a strategic investor in Jio platforms. We have partnered with Google and under the agreement Google will invest 33,737 crore for a 7.7 percent stake in Jio platforms. He said that with this Reliance has raised up to 2,12,809 cumulative funds in less than three months.
